We Bought a House
I can’t believe I am finally writing this but we bought a house! Since moving to Norway we didn’t think this day would come or it would be a few more years down the road. But finally the day has come.
Anyways the house buying process in Norway is different from the process in the United States so it was a bit of a learning curve. On top of that our case was very unusual but I’ll explain that.
The house we bought is the house my husband grew up in. My in-laws actually bought the house in 1984. In the mid 1990s they added on upstairs. Since we moved back to Alta it has been my husband’s dream to take over the house and be able to raise our Children here.

More About the House
The house has three floors: a basement, the main floor and the second floor. For Norway it is a large house. It has roughly 277 square meters (2981 square feet).
In the basement we have a laundry room and a sauna, two large room (currently just considered storage), a pantry and a room for freezers. We also have a staircase that leads to outside with a place/landing for storage.
The main floor includes the entry way, a half bath, a bedroom used as an office, a bathroom, our main bedroom, the kitchen, dining area and the main living space.
The second floor has another living room, as well as three bedrooms and a bathroom.
The house is of course livable but the house hasn’t been updated since the mid-1990s so it does need updating. Also because we bought it from my in-laws they (being my father-in-law) hadn’t moved out when we moved in. So it’s been very chaotic, not only did I have to pack up everything in our apartment, then unpack it (although I’m not done) and pack up the stuff my in-laws wanted, trash/sell what they didn’t etc. They have been living in this house most of their married life, raised three boys and throughout those years acquired many things so it hasn’t been an easy job.
We have decided that as we start updating the house we are going to be working from top to bottom. Of course some of the bigger and more expensive renovations will be last.
OMG! I almost forgot to mention the garage. We have a large two car garage that has a sports storage room, a wood storage room and a wood working studio. The garage is 100 square room and a wood working studio. The garage is 100 square meters (roughly 1076 sq. feet). All of these course will also be projects!
We also have a large yard, and I can’t wait to plan and plant everything and make it new! I have so many ideas for the garden, the garage, and the house!
Going Forward
We have a ton of projects that we will be conquering and as time passes we will be updating every corner of the house, buying new furniture and tackling a ton of DIY projects.
In addition to writing more content about our home. I hope to also write about the house buying process here in Norway.
I am so excited to make this house a home, decorate it and share our journey.
Once I finalise some of our design plans I will definitely be sharing. I know the first two rooms we will be tackling are the kids rooms.
Robin and I are loving the space and are so excited to make wonderful memories here and hosting tons of parties/holidays for our family and friends. The Kid’s are also loving the extra space.
We are so excited to start this new chapter in our lives. We can’t wait to put our print on it and truly make it ours.
