Feather ruffling fun!
In the wide savanna there are three birds named Ade, Emem, and Nuru, that live on the back of an elephant. They are best friends. But one day the wind blows a bright speckled feather into their midst, and in no time their peacefulness is over.

The Speckled Feather was another fun children’s book that I received on Net Galley from author Johanna Ries in exchange for my review. Although I did receive a free copy of this book in exchange for my review, all thoughts are completely my own and not influenced in anyway.

The Speckled Feather was an interesting and unique book about three birds who live together on the back of an elephant. One day a unique feather appears and one of the birds snatches it up. While the bird with the feather starts to boast the other birds become jealous and start plotting to steal the feather. This book explores important themes that as parents we want our children to learn such as friendship and loyalty.

“Look how handsome I am!” He boasted, “I am the most beautiful bird in the whole savanna!”

My daughter enjoyed this book and really enjoyed the story. We had a wonderful discussion afterwards about what it meant to be a good friend, that it’s important to share and how to deal when conflicts arise.

The illustrations in this book are beautiful and help the storyline flow. This book is great for elementary school aged children. Although I believe some younger children would enjoy it as well.

The elephant looked down at his friends for quite a long time. Then he nodded, “no more quarrelling?” he asked. “Promise?”
