Life at 69° North

can't believe I am finally writing this but we bought a house! Since moving to Norway we didn't think this day would come or it would be a few more years down the road.

Life at 69° North,Nordic Living,Reflect

We Bought a House

A Quiet Note From the North

A few times each month, I send a letter from life at 69° North.

Inside you’ll find seasonal reflections, Nordic books, meaningful travel inspiration, and the quiet lessons I’ve learned while making a home in Northern Norway.

No noise. No overwhelm. Just thoughtful stories delivered slowly.

Thank you!

Today looked a little different than yesterday.

Instead of standing on the pier doing dispatch, I spent the day guiding two groups around Alta. One went to Sami Siida and Alta Museum, and the other to the Northern Lights Cathedral.

These are places I know well through work, but guiding always makes me notice them differently. You hear the questions people ask, you watch what catches their attention, and sometimes you end up looking at familiar places with fresher eyes yourself.

The reindeer at Sami Siida were very interested in what we were doing, the cultural side of the visit always gives people a lot to take in, and later in the day Rotterdam sat out on the fjord waiting quietly against the mountains.

It was one of those very normal workdays here that probably does not feel very normal at all from the outside.

And I think that is one of the things I like most about living at 69° North.

Some mornings here start before the light really does.

I was down at the port at 06:00 for dispatch with AIDAbella, and by 08:00 Rotterdam had come in too. It was cold, quiet, and one of those October mornings where everything looks almost blue before the day properly gets going.

I spend a lot of time around ships because of work, so scenes like this are part of normal life for me now. But every so often I still stop and look at it for a minute.

Not a bad way to start the day at 69° North. ⚓️

Happy Birthday to my hubby, Robin Rundhaug! ❤️🥳

Another year older, although I’m sure you’ll insist you’re not getting old yet. 😂 And as the kids have mentioned 100x times today you’re just old I’m ancient! So you have some time. 🤣

Thank you for being my partner through all of the chaos, adventures, crazy ideas, family life, work, travel, projects, and everything else we somehow manage to pack into our lives. I wouldn’t want to do any of it with anyone else. ❤️

I hope this next year brings you lots of good food, good beer, golf, adventures, and maybe even a little time to relax. You deserve it.

We love you so much. Happy Birthday! ❤️🎂🍻

Seventeen years ago today, I married my best friend.

We’ve built a life together that neither of us could have imagined back then. We’ve raised two incredible children, created a home in Northern Norway, shared countless adventures, traveled to amazing places, laughed until we cried, faced challenges we never expected, and somehow come out stronger on the other side.

Marriage hasn’t always been easy, but it has always been worth it.

Robin Rundhaug, thank you for being my safe place, my biggest supporter, my favorite travel companion, and the person I still want beside me at the end of every day. Thank you for believing in my dreams, for building this beautiful life with me, and for loving me through every season.

Here’s to 17 wonderful years, and to many more adventures, quiet mornings, unforgettable journeys, and growing old together.

Happy Anniversary. ❤️

I love you. Always
